Claire Davies’ work, undertaken during her time as artist-in-residence at Northumbria University’s Advanced Research Materials Institute, offers us a way of contemplating the micro-world. In her still images and animations, she engages with the technologies used in the laboratory and used this information as the basis for her work.

Recently, as Lead Artist for North Shore Development in Stockton on Tees, Davies has created images by manipulating elements of Architectural drawings from the Masterplan. The images for inclusion in the plan chest are studies of these satellite views, investigating the tension between the manmade and the natural landscape.

Davies was born in St Helens, UK, in 1970 and currently lives and works in Durham and Berlin. Recent solo exhibitions include Flatland, Vane, Newcastle upon Tyne, (2006) Wonderland, National Glass Centre, Sunderland (2006) and Wonderland_02, Glow Festival, Newcastle upon Tyne (2006). She was Arts Council England, North East Berlin Residency Artist in Residence in 2006-2007, and is currently lead artist for the North Shore Development, Stockton on Tees.
