Hi, tell us a little about yourself!
I currently study at Newcastle College; doing an international baccalaureate, I live by the coast and I work in a butchers.
Butchers?! Sounds interesting and unusual. What do you like about working in such a strange place?
I like the realness of the place behind the scenes; I also find it fascinating how people are usually quite disgusted by slaughtered carcases and how the meat is produced and packaged to look like something that it was not originally- I don’t necessarily enjoy the cleaning up!
How long have you been volunteering at Globe?
Roughly from the middle of April.
What do you do when you’re not volunteering?
I read allot, I volunteer at St Oswalds and I go in the sea- yes the north sea, you cant call yourself Northern unless you swim in the north sea.
Do you create any artworks?
I like small things; I put lots of small things in boxes.
Do you have them themed?
Yes, they are predominantly related to ideas of materialism and overconsumption.
We love books! What is the last book you've read, and why should we read it?
The Watchmen; you should read it because for a graphic novel it is incredibly complex; guaranteed you wont put it down. Also I never thought I would enjoy it but now I’m obsessed!
What is your favourite hot drink?
How have you found your time at Globe so far?
I have really enjoyed it. Its not like the other places I have volunteered in fact it doesn’t really feel like volunteering at all.
And finally, what are your plans for the future?
I would like to study art abroad and teach English alongside, perhaps Spain as I speak a little Spanish however my tutor said I have a brick in my head so maybe not!
Thanks Katie for your story!
