Hello Sam, tell us a little bit about yourself….

I am Sam, and I’m studying Graphics Communication at Sunderland.

We love books, from ‘The Very Hungry Caterpiller’ to ‘Art at the turn of the Millenium’. What is the last book you read, and why should we read it?

I am trying to catch up on my reading list, so am currently reading Design Without Boundaries:Visual Communication in Transition by Rick Poyner, a great commentary of all that was happening in the design world in 1990s, as well as Micheal Perry’s Hand Job, (I know what you are thinking of, and, no, this is not a dirty book, this is book about hand drawn typography) this is great too, especially if you love hand drawn typography like I do, it features 55 amazing works by top designers. I also try to finish Jean Baudrillard’s Selected Writing, but probably just going to end up re-reading Harry Potter again.

What was the last film you saw, and should we see it too?

Breathless, and yes, you should. It is effortlessly cool and playful. I love how it still looks modern and fresh after so many years, the cinematography and art direction is just awesome.

We would love to know what your passions and interests are…

I am interested in art and design, of course. I am really into knitting right now, I’ve been knitting a teddy for a while, it’s taking absolutely forever, I am trying to take up embroidery, too. I can’t believe I am going to say this, but I have grown to love typography, my tutor will be pleased to hear this.

And finally, what are your plans for the future?

Well, first of all, I want to finish my degree, after that I’d love to do another degree in either in History of Art and Design or Art Therapy. But I want to work as a designer for a few years, too.

Sounds very interesting! Good luck, Sam!
