A two-week long display of participatory work celebrating our individual and unique cultural identities

Story Telling
marks the culmination of a series of participatory workshops exploring the themes of culture and identity.  Artist Ben Jeans Houghton worked with three groups in Newcastle and one group in Middlesbrough using objects, drawing and narrative as ways of helping more than 50 participants from all around the world to express something personal about their lives.

The resulting work will be displayed in the empty shop windows of the soon to close Globe Hub Gallery in North Shields, Tyne & Wear during the evenings for a two week period.  The work features an installation of borrowed objects personal to many of the participants and a specially commissioned video that documenting the project entitled nähdä unta by Ben Jeans Houghton.

Story Telling will illuminate the streets of North Shields with thought provoking images that celebrate difference.

The Globe Gallery worked in partnership with Aspen Culture Project, North of England Refugee Service, All Points North and Riverside Community Health Project to deliver the series of workshops to participants.

Special thanks to Marysia Angus who volunteered for Globe last year before being paid to assistant in coordinating this project.
