Suicide Prevention in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans Communities National Conference on Suicide Prevention in LGBT Communities by Cee Cee Biddlecombe

On the 23 of January 2015 the Globe Gallery, in their new premises on Pilgrim street, hosted the Suicide Prevention in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans Communities National Conference. I Found the conference very memorable and inspiring! In the morning there was a great line-up of speakers, I was touched by a personal sharing of a first-hand suicide witness, which gave me a deeper insight into the social issues at the backdrop of LGBT suicide issues. Later in the afternoon, I joined a workshop that focused on how photography brings the audience to a better understanding of mental illness, letting us view common day to day objects, such as bed, keyboard, and food, from their perspective. Bed, seen by most as having the connotations of comfort and relaxation, is described as an object of fear. Both the speaker events in the morning and the workshop were fantastic!'
