Adorno in Love
1 July - 11 August, 2007
An engraved laser-cut mirror installation in cooperation with artist/composer MANOS KORNELAKIS.GLOBE CITY is delighted to present Adorno in Love, the first UK solo exhibition by the internationally acclaimed artist Harris Kondosphyris. The exhibition entails kaleidoscopic mirrors in a dynamic installation consisting of two images immersed in Kornelakis’ ever-developing soundtrack.
Adorno in Love accounts the moment where philosopher T. Adorno takes a photo of his reflected image in a mirror that at the same time reflects a couple at the end of love, in total alienation.
Harris Kondosphyris with this work is tracing the limits between visual artwork and fundamental experience. In doing so, he looks at the obscure connection between creativity and the illusive substance of self in the digital era.
Harris Kondosphyris has shown his work in major galleries in Greece and abroad. In 2004 he co-operates with Cheap Art Context Gallery (Athens) for the production and the exhibition of the installation Athens-Beijing, which was the official representation of Greece in the 26th Biennale of Sao Paulo, Brazil, with the art-critic and historian, Irini Savvani, as the Commissioner. The artwork Athens-Beijing was also exhibited at the 2nd International Beijing Biennale (September 2005).
Harris Kondosphyris (www.harriskondosphyris.com) and Manos Kornelakis both live and work in Athens, Greece.
“Adorno in Love” forms part of Kondosphyris’ wider project “Fast forward death” and is supported by the J. F. Costopoulos Foundation, Athens, Greece.
Project catalogue to be published soon.
