The Late Shows 2013: Embedded Union
18 May, 2013
In association with Northern Architecture's archiGRAD programme, we were delighted to present Embedded Union; a site-specific participatory sculpture for the 2013 Late Shows.
Participants were invited to step into one of our an amazing disused bank vault and become part of an exiting new piece of contemporary art by sharing a thought, wish or memory, which was displayed on a foil cylinder and suspended in a space in the first floor gallery to create a 3D model in the air. Over 500 cylinders coupled with thoughts gradually filled the void above our heads in an ever-changing field of individual imprints, altering the space as it grew throughout the evening.
The Late Shows is an annual inspiring, after-dark programme of events and exhibitions centering on the cultural venues in NewcastleGateshead that are usually closed in the evening. Museums, galleries and visitor attractions stay up late to encourage people to do something cultural with their evening, in celebration of the international event ‘Museums at Night’.
