Housey Housey - Pierre d’Avoine Architects
Putting the idea of ‘home shopping’ into its most lateral meaning, Housey Housey is a pattern book of ideal homes. Written by Pierre D’Avoine and Claire Melhuish, the fundamental idea behind the pattern book was that of a reproducible formula which can respond to different situations and contexts – physical, economic and cultural. For the purpose of this exhibition seven of the designs were realised as doll’s houses, accompanied by the principal plan drawn onto blackboards. Both the book and the exhibition were conceived in response to the lack of choice in the market for new homes, which was monopolised by the volume house builders. Pierre and Claire also gave a talk at Globe CITY 10/5/06. This event formed part of Northern Architecture’s ‘My Home Our Place’ event series.
