Luna Nera

Postindustrial Baroque

30 January - 24 March ,2008

Postindustrial Baroque was a retrospective show for London-based artist group Luna Nera, and covered ten years of site responsive art practice across a number of different venues in different countries.

Luna Nera was founded in 1997, to explore significant but abandoned urban spaces. From a 17th Century underground prison in London to a naval base in Russia, the group’s practice explores iconic sites such as as the Harland & Wolff shipyard in Belfast, and George Gilbert Scott’s Midland Grand Hotel at St Pancras. The group’s work combined an interest in the “postindustrial condition” of the present time, together with a dramatic approach to the urban landscape. The group’s video work had been shown at the Art Moscow art fair, Vidifestival Valencia, Champ Libre Montreal, the Backup Festival in Weimar Germany and in galleries in Berlin, Helsinki and London.
