Kitty McKay & Emma Pace

Working with paper and plasticine, the artists drew on nature’s endless abundance, inviting visitors to step outside familiar forms and notice what truly blooms.

Kitty McKay’s practice sat between painting and sculpture. Through a playful use of plasticine, she blurred the boundaries between two and three dimensions, creating colourful, tactile landscapes that felt both surreal and inviting.

Emma Pace brought a sensitive, material-led approach to the exhibition. Using crepe paper, she created large-scale sculptural forms that sat in dialogue with McKay’s work, introducing a sense of scale, texture, and softness that transformed the space into a shared garden of imagination and growth.

The exhibition presented a man-made paradise of plasticine and paper, inspired by the wildflowers of the North East that bloom in unlikely places. It formed a mismatched garden of resilience and colour, offering a hopeful reminder that brighter days were always just around the corner.
