Jolly Days – Railway Posters Revisited, a nostalgic and sharply satirical exhibition by Chris Donald, creator of the legendary Viz comic.

In this series, Donald brought his signature wit and offbeat humour to a collection of reimagined vintage railway posters, casting a playful and irreverent eye over the quirks of traditional British seaside holidays.

Through bold visuals and sharp wordplay, the works celebrated familiar holiday destinations while gently skewering the absurdities of British culture. From soggy beach picnics to the awkward glamour of caravan parks, each piece captured the character of places that feel both fondly recognisable and quietly ridiculous.

The exhibition offered more than humour alone, inviting visitors to reflect on the comfort of the mundane and the enduring pull of homegrown traditions, viewed through Donald’s culturally rich and satirical lens.

Signed prints from the exhibition were made available to purchase both in the Globe Gallery shop and online.

Jolly Days formed part of a broader programme celebrating creative diversity at Globe Gallery and was presented alongside Blank Canvas, bringing together two distinct artistic voices united by a shared spirit of reinvention and cultural commentary.
