North Shields artist Anthony Downie showed a new series of paintings inspired by the architecture and atmosphere of Tynemouth Station. Rooted in observation, memory and a deep connection to place, the works reimagined recognisable corners of the station through shifts in perspective, altered architectural details and unexpected compositions, structures stretching and folding into one another until familiar routes became disorienting, dreamlike spaces. Through bold colour, dramatic light and a distinctive architectural language, Downie revealed the hidden character of everyday environments, much like his celebrated paintings of North Shields streets and back lanes, balancing reality with invention to capture not just what a place looks like, but how it feels.

Alongside this, Tallulah Lines presented two large scale text works inspired by the colour, visual language and street culture of Mexico. Drawing on hand painted signage, mural traditions and vibrant Mexican palettes, Lines transformed language into bold, almost sculptural architectural forms using layered typography, dramatic shadowing and highly saturated colour. The phrases Pleasure is a Reason and The Life You Want Requires Uncomfortable Decisions functioned as both statements and provocations, balancing optimism with challenge to explore desire, ambition, comfort and personal agency. Installed within the working rhythm of Tynemouth Station, the pieces created moments of interruption within everyday travel, drawing attention in the same way public artworks do in the street.

Together, the exhibition invited visitors to pause, reflect and rediscover a place many know well, revealing how even the most familiar landscapes can hold new meaning when seen through the eyes of an artist.
